Statement by the Adil Soz Foundation Regarding the Court's Decision on Journalists' Collective Lawsuit Against the Ministry of Culture and Information

The Adil Soz Foundation expresses deep disappointment with the court's decision to reject journalists' claims challenging the constitutionality of subparagraph 1) of paragraph 11 of the Model Rules for Accrediting Journalists. We believe this ruling infringes on journalists' constitutional right to freely disseminate information and contradicts the principles of the rule of law enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

We assert that the restrictions imposed by the Ministry of Culture and Information exceed its authority and must be regulated exclusively by law, not by subordinate acts. The plaintiffs intend to appeal this decision to a higher court, and the Adil Soz Foundation will continue to defend journalists' rights to independent and impartial activities, providing support during the appellate process.

We call for adherence to the Constitution and the protection of freedom of speech for all members of the media.
